#TransGippsland

Al and I have been talking about mapping out a bikepacking route in East Gipplsand our home for nearly 6 years for well nearly 6 years! And last month we finally put our words into action and rode it with a couple of aims. 1. it was holidays and we wanted to ride our bikes. 2. we needed to ride a heap of trails to see which the best would be to showcase our wonderful area. So we are one step closer to being able to put up a gpx file that people can download to their garmins and come and ride whenever they want. I’ll also put up some cue sheets with information on food/water/weather/accommodation/services etc. In the meantime here are some pictures from our trip to inspire you to come visit and explore our awesome area!

We rode through Errinundra National Park- super beautiful, always cold and wet!

The ride was super hilly, approximately 500k long with minimal resupply points. The scenery the best I’ve seen anywhere in the world, how lucky we are to live so close!

One of the climbs took us nearly 2 hours! Also got rained on and my sleeping mat popped in the first 5 minutes of the first night. Al didn’t get much sleep that night as he lent me his mat! He slept on his hammock the next night but the rain that came down at 2 in the morning forced him back onto the ground in the tent!

We rode to places including Cann River, Combienbar, Bendoc, Bonang, Gelantipy and Buchan. We camped out, stayed in a friends house and stayed in a backpackers.
